TOMMY KNIGHT

I’m currently 31, a part-time running coach, enjoying my running more than ever and feel like it’s still just kicking off.

As runners, we all go through phases – sometimes it’s easy, other times it’s hard. Sometimes you’re motivated, other times you dread doing sessions. At the moment, I’m enjoying running more than ever. I enjoy improving and getting quicker each year. Very few things are sweeter in life than a PB. 

 

My running journey started in 2019 to help overcome my mental health and fix an unhealthly lifestyle. My life used to consist of bad habits and heavy drinking now, it consists of a clear mind and running is not just to support mental health, it’s my passion. 

 

The race that started it all was a local 5k fun run. This ignited a fire inside of me that I didn’t realise was there. Since that day, I’ve given up smoking and drinking, my mental heathy has improved    and my passion for running is bigger than ever. After that race, I signed up to Brighton Marathon - my 1st, the one that made me focus on improving my times, form and consistency. 

 

Fast forward 3 years, I am now a sub-90 minute half marathoner, 9 x Marathoner with a PB of 3hrs 25 minutes.   I’ve progressed year- on-year and am going to keep at it until I find out where my peak is. As athletes, we all have our limitations – have you reached yours yet?

 

Running to me is everything. It’s my passion. The connection with different people and the feeling of being proud of yourself. From the race day atmosphere, the Saturday morning parkruns, the friends I’ve made, the opportunities it’s given me, the travel, the fun rivalries. There’s a range of feelings you gain from accomplishing something you didn’t once think you could.

I felt like I was struggling to progress with my training and I didn't have a good understanding of how to train properly. So I reached out to Tommy and I haven't looked back since! Just within a month of doing his training program I have smashed my 10k and half marathon PB, and not by a few seconds.. by minutes! I don't believe I could have done this on my own. Tommy is helping me achieve my goal of getting a BQ and I can't wait to see what the future holds!
